Spirit is a three part piece for treble choirs with piano especially written for Anzac Day. With optional solos for the verse and easy to learn harmonies, it is designed to be accessible for most primary and secondary choirs.
Spirit reflects upon the meaning of the term “Spirit of Anzac”.
Verse 1: (Optional solo)
I am bold and brave and true,
Ever old, yet ever new;
I am not afraid to try,
I am here to “do or die”.
Verse 2: (Optional solo)
I’m a story, I’m a song;
I’m a tear, an echo long.
I’m that tug inside your chest,
never to be laid to rest.
Chorus 1:
I am free, flying free;
I’m in your heart, I’m in your soul,
I’m in the very air you breathe.
Bridge:
I’m the echo of a heart beat
that drums in time with yours.
Chorus 2:
I am the Spirit of Anzac.
I am the Spirit of you.
I am the Spirit of Anzac.
I am the Spirit of you.
Verse 3: (Optional solo)
Some of us lived with memories,
some never had that chance
but all of us are gone now
and you are what we left.
